The Lancaster County Treasurer's Office collects all current property taxes and acts as a banker for the County.

By law real estate and personal property tax bills have to be mailed 30 days prior to the due date. Taxes are due by January 15th without penalty unless the 15th falls on a weekend or holiday. If it falls on a weekend or holiday you will have until 5:00 pm the next business day to pay without penalty. After March 16th unless weekend or holiday they are turned over to the Tax Collector’s office @ 803-283-8885.

Motor Vehicle bills are mailed 30 days prior to bills being due and are due on the last day of the month. The decal will come from the South Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) Office if you pay by mail, phone, or online within 7-10 business days. If you don’t receive the decal within 7-10 business days, please call DMV @ 1-803-896-5000.

If payment method is returned from the financial institution for any reason, there will be a return fee of $30.00 added.

An important deadline is approaching for Lancaster County taxpayers – the closing of the County’s 2023 tax books, which takes place on March 18 th @ 5:00 pm. This is an important step in the annual fiscal budgeting process for Lancaster County Government, as it allows those who serve on County Council, the School Board and the Town and City council to determine how much tax revenue they will have to work with as they work to finish their 2024-2025 budgets.

Please note: Online and phone payments are not processed until the next business day. All processing fees are collected by the provider and do not go to the county.
